Never been a fan of westerns but I am a fan of this western, Welcome to the golden age when Rockstar games could make anything cool. #0014 on the PS2POCALYPSE, Red Dead Revolver.
Gunning Down the Wild West: A Critical Review of Red Dead Revolver for PS2 – The Negative Press -This is the link to what the AI thinks about this game, now we can jump into what I think about this game.
This was a nice change of pace taking a detour from Street Fighter into the wild wild west, this is one hell of a good game that does not get enough credit. Remember people, your beloved Red Dead Redemption would not exist without Red Dead Revolver.
Red Dead Revolver Story
The story here is pretty simple and easy to follow. The game starts of with a tutorial of the main character as a mid-teen being gifted a revolver from his dad. While practicing on how to shoot, Red’s family is killed by a gang of bandits. It is slowly unraveled throughout the game of who is behind the murder of your family and why.
Once we roll into the town of Brimstone, the central hub of the game, we will be doing some bounty work. After a few bounties, you will be introduced to some new characters who have their own woes and are in need of cash. There is a quick gun slinger Englishman, an Annie Oakly knock off with a dope skill shot, a northern military guy just trying to do his job, and an indian dude that somehow knows Red. Each character has their own set of skills and use.
As the game progresses, we learn that there is a colonel from the old war that has a part in all of what is going on, in the background there is chatter of a dueling contest that is coming up. Red and his friends win the contest, play the game or watch the video to find out how. THE MAYOR IS THE BAD GUY, FUCK THE MAYOR.
After all the hell we go through, we find out the Mayor of Brimstone is the guy that ordered your family to be killed because he didn’t want to split money with your dad. Kill the Mayor and bam you have beaten a great game.

Red Dead Revolver Gameplay
Now, the gameplay is pretty straight forward, maybe a bit barebones. The true driving nature of this game is the story. You shoot the shit out of everything that is in your way, if you get annoyed, slow down time with dead eye. Once you get through to the bounty stages, the bounties are of course the bosses.
Shoot people in the head and collect more money. Your grade of the stage is added monetarily to your wallet. Spend your money on guns and gun upgrades, you also can unlock showdown characters and bonus material by buying optional shit. There is a lot of stuff to unlock in this game, maybe one day I will revisit this game to talk more about the stuff that is unlockable and the other modes other than the story mode.
Red Dead Revolver Gameplay 8/10
Red Dead Revolver Difficulty
Meh, the game is pretty easy up until the last couple stages. The stage where you are in the town trying to get into the bunker or whatever is annoying because its pretty dumb what you have to do. The final stage is dumb because there are a ton of guys to kill and your other friends cannot die. Lastly, the final boss is hard because its a quick-action duel, but this is all end game stuff so it doesn’t feel too overwhelming when you encounter it.
Red Dead Revolver Difficulty 8/10
Red Dead Revolver Graphics
The graphics are pretty nice in this game. There are these cool little scenes that play between each stage showing the character you are playing as showing off their gun skills. The sun glare effects are very nice. This game has got some super sweet graphics if you ask me.
Red Dead Revolver Graphics 8/10
Red Dead Revolver Controls
As I had mentioned before there is a weird thing that happens when you shoot shit but it doesn’t register as a I hit, I am gonna have to knock down the controls because of that.
Red Dead Revolver Controls 8/10
Red Dead Revolver Sound
The voice acting is awesome in this game. The OST is stellar.
Red Dead Revolver Sound 10/10
