Ok, lets really try to pick this apart as much as possible to make it make sense. The main goal of this game is to kill everything that by gawd moves. We then drain them of blood to increase our health bar. So if you suck everything in this sucky game you get some unsucky health levels. JOKES ON YOU. The more health you have the more health the enemies take away anyway so there is no real sense of accomplishment in going around and increasing your blood reserves.

This game is also stage based, there is no giant overworld, we are in the stage and we progress through it like you would any other game. Almost every stage has a boss, the boss fights are fucking stupid. The majority of the fight is just letting the enemy hit you to build up your rage meter to then hit them with a rage attack which begats the next part of the fight. So you get hit a ton, then you gotta figure out the gimmick. It is really really stupid.

Each boss gives you a new ability that is necessary to make the next stage accomplishable. It starts to get puzzling when you have all the abilities and you are just sitting there like which one of these dumb abilities am I supposed to be using now?

Fighting is really unnatural and annoying. I will cover what makes it so cumbersome in the controls section. Some of the enemies can just fuck you up and everyone has a super move that can destroy you that is unblockable so you got to move away at the right time or suffer the consequences. Once cool part about this game is the stealth kills. If you use your fog power and then sneak up on people you can take em out in one hit. Any time you see fog, use it to your advantage, you will save a fuck ton of time.

The enemies in this game get super tough and really annoying and start carrying awesome weapons they drop for you to then use on the other foes, but the game just gets to the point where your enemies start blocking more than you do and they are hard to hit.

And the next thing about this game that is annoying. There are all these little things you have to do in each stage that I would call puzzles but they are more like doing jobs. There is a part early on in the game where you are trying to get into a work area and the guy says workers only and Kain says “I am the night shift” which in and of itself is a dope line, the problem is I think the mind rotted vampire takes his own words to heart as we start having to operate cranes and conveyor belts to advance to the next stage… dude you don’t literally have to do their jobs as some sort of weird guilt for killing them Kain.

Now I do not know if this is just a problem in my copy or an issue that is just a part of the game but the game has these scenes where the frame rate drops to terrible fucking lows for no reason. That slows down Kain’s ability to block. Block is quite essential to the fights. It really sucks.

There is a part where you have to climb ladders and the ladders just don’t work right. God damn nothing is right about this sucky game. How did we get so far away from the awesomeness that is Blood Omen on PS1?

Sadly the violence does not compensate for the terrible gameplay and shitty puzzles. Also Kain never once says Vae Victus in this game
