This is one of the hardest versions of the Street Fighter alpha series you will ever play any of Street Fighter Alpha games ever. #0013 on the PS2POCALYPSE, Street Fighter Alpha Anthology.
Enter the Arena: Street Fighter Alpha Anthology Retrospective – The Negative Press– This is the link to what the AI thinks about this game, now we can jump into what I think about this game.
The Alpha games are always challenging but god damn Alpha 2 Gold, chill the fuck out. You don’t gotta run me down with Ryu like that against Sakura. These are Arcade ports of Alpha, Alpha 2, Alpha 2 Gold, Alpha 3 and Gem Fighter. I am not going to go into each one of these games in depth, I am just going to talk about it in general as I am not going to break down 5 separate games… Especially since they will all be played again down the road, and each get their own review.
I will say one thing, the AI is not fucking around in any of these games.
Street Fighter Alpha Anthology Story
The Alpha games were the first games in the Street Fighter series that actually include little conversations between characters in the middle of the arcade mode. There is more story that evolves in these games than in the Street Fighter II games. There isn’t a giant overall story in these games though.
Each fighter has their own elaborate story throughout each of these games. I wouldn’t say their stories are captivating but they are good enough to suffice for a fighting game narative.

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology Gameplay
So these games once again are ports of their arcade renditions. Alpha 1 and 2 play very nice and smooth. Alpha 2 Gold is cranked up to kick your ass into the ground. Ryu is the final boss for some reason for most characters… bro, Ryu is not fucking around in this game.
Alpha 3 is a little bit different this time around as well because you actually fight Juni and Juli at the same time prior to fighting Bison. I am not sure if that is a Cammy only thing, or if that is just how the arcade version plays. I have only beat this game on the PS1 before this. The Juni and Juli fight is hardcore as you fight them both at the same time and have to win two times.
If you lose at Bison it is game over, you do not get another chance. So each fighter has two ending videos, you either beat Bison or you don’t.
I am going to focus here on Gem Fighter a bit as this is the only game we aren’t going to play again I don’t believe. This game is weird, its quirky, its annoying, its fun. Gems fall from the sky, you collect them, you buff certain areas of your character and you beat gems out of your opponent. Its fun. Its like fighting as the characters of Super Puzzle Fighter.

So, the difficulty is definitely cranked up here. All fairness is thrown out the window on this game. It does not play. Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold will kick your ass in!
