It’s the REAL long-awaited return of VAE VICTUS! After playing the last two games in the series I had no hope for this game, #0010 the PS2POCALYPSE, Legacy of Kain: Defiance. I was immediately surprised by how this game actually fixed everything that was wrong with the last two games.
This is the birth of the PSX_ReapeR.
Unveiling Darkness: Legacy of Kain: Defiance Review – The Negative Press– This is the link to what the AI thinks about this game, now we can jump into what I think about this game.
After two stinkfests of games, we finally get to end the PS2 trilogy with a good game. There was nothing insanely over the top great about this, but I would rather play something that was of average decency after playing the last two games in the series.
Many people say that Soul Reaper 1 is the best of the entire series but I gotta say its Blood Omen and Defiance. The rest of the games (despite still not playing Soul Reaver 1) seem bug ridden and annoying to me.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Story
Everyone dies. Kain says Vae Vicus a lot and that is all you need to know, everyone dies. The voice acting is great, everyone except Kain is dead, the end. Woo.
The game follows both Raziel and Kain. Both have two totally different stories based in two totally different times and their stories slowly become one in the same leading up to the epic finale. It’s pretty well written and a deservingly awesome ending for a otherwise dismal series.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Story 7/10
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Gameplay
So Kain starts off with all his powers, its pretty cool. Kain is out here busting that ass while Raziel is doing all the puzzle shit. Sweet. Raziel on the other hand has to yet again, go get all his Reaver powers because he sucks.
Kain be doing the killing and blood sucking and Raziel is warping through time and shit fucking everything up. Raziel is much cooler in this game than Soul Reaver 2 if you ask me. Kain is a badass always but it is nice that he has all his power off the rip. Kain also has the Soul Reaver weapon.
There isn’t much to explain here if you read the last two reviews. it is the same game as the last two just more refined. The biggest issue is that the game crashes and freezes a lot. I am not sure if it is my copy or if that is just how the game is.
Much like Blood Omen 2 the game is stage based. You get so far then the next character takes over. The hardest part is the mansion as the puzzles are kind of annoying.
The game plays like a game of cat and mouse with Kain trying to catch up to Raziel so they can finally team up to take down the squid guy… well it happens and all is well is Nosgoth.
Really the only new thing about this game is that you can either execute people for more weapon power and kill them to drain them of their essence for health when they are weakened and ready to be killed.
I really don’t have much to say about this game. It’s fun, it’s playable, it’s violent. it’s enjoyable.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Gameplay 8/10
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Difficulty
It’s definitely the easiest of the bunch. Its the easiest to pick up and understand what to do.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Difficulty 7/10
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Graphics
They really upped their game on this one. Way to go Eidos it only took y’all 3 games to get it right in all avenues. This game actually looks like something that belongs on the PS2. Good job, its not breathtaking but there is some really good texturing throughout the game with really good character design.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance Controls
Wow, you guys finally got this down too. Though there is some unresponsiveness at times in comparison to the last two its much better. The only major gripe I have here is the camera is weird as hell. You do not control it in perspective of the characters location, you control it from a far away third person view, very strange choice.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Controls 7/10
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Sound
Everything except the OST is stellar. This game gets some points here from me as it has one of my favorite cold ass lines in it of all time when Kain tells the dude to go to his god just before he kills him. Kain also be saying Vae Victus every 20 seconds if you execute people.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Sound 8/10
