MDK 2 was not a fun experience for me, it tried to add too much to a game that needs very little. It’s about killing, not puzzles, keep it simple. Keeping it simple is exactly what the first game does. Cuz in PSXSLAYER #0018 ITS MDK ALL FUCKIN DAY!
MDK PS1 Review – A Bold Sci-Fi Shooter That Aimed High and Fell Short – The Negative Press– Here is what those fat cat video game websites feel about this game, here is the slang banging cuss filled Douche Loder version of those words.
Count the bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drum!
MDK Story
So, the story actually makes sense here. Aliens are attacking earth. Kurt, the doctor, and bones (Max) are part of the organization that watches the skies above the earth. They make sure aliens don’t invade by going ahead and blasting the shit out of them. It’s pretty god damn basic and it is all it needs to be. Imagine X-Com just being a force of one dude. Now you got it!
MDK Story 6/10

MDK Gameplay
MDK 2 suffers from trying to be too many things. MDK is good at just being one thing. A third person body stacker. Could it be better? Could it have more? Could they have put more stages? Yes, but for what it is, this game delivers! It’s called MDK and it lives up to its name. You seriously are going to kill thousands of alien bastards.
There are cool parts where you get to fly around in alien ships too. Those parts are really fun. DEATH FROM ABOVE!
Basically, Kurt drops down into these places being attacked by aliens by space falling down to them. While in freefall you can collect new weapons and power ups on your way down. You don’t always need power ups because the game is straight forward for the most part.
You advance through stages by killing aliens and blowing up doors with tiny nuclear bombs. No stupid puzzles, no dumb shit. Just run, gun, snipe, bomb, blam, thank you exploding door mam.
There is a lot of hidden humor and fun, so be on the lookout for it. Also, if you knock over the monkeys that are running around you get 150 health. They should never have fucked with this madness.
Each stage is broken down into 10 sections. Each stage has a boss. The game is 6 stages.
MDK Gameplay 7.5/10

MDK Difficulty
You run and gun and shoot. Watch your health, get health when you need it. There is an abundance of everything you need laying in the wide open. No thinking needed. It’s a little too easy. There are only a few times where this game gets tough but you get to save anywhere you damn well please and you start at the beginning of that section.
MDK Difficulty 8/10

MDK Graphics
Firstly, the skyboxes are very very nice. Some of the stages look way better than they should. There is an earthworm Jim life pick up. But lets put all that over to the side for one second and let me explain what is very nice about the graphics of this game. I have never seen a sprite rendered over 3D like this before on the PS1. Kurt looks like a 2.5D character in a fully 3D game. It creates a surreal visual experience that is not too jarring to distract you from the game at hand.
MDK Graphics 9/10

MDK Controls
If you play with the left analogue stick and strafe left and right with the shoulder buttons its not that bad. Navigation with the d-pad sucks very bad. Late game platforming is a bit much and there is a weird camera problem where the camera is a part of Kurt because you cannot back up into any corner, it is hard to explain but it is a thing. It doesn’t really hinder you.
MDK Controls 7/10

MDK Sound
This soundtrack goes hard. The ammo flying everywhere is sick. The sounds of the enemies is sick. Its pretty good in the sound department. It’s dare I say… Groovy!
MDK 9/10
