It’s a shame that Half-Life 2 has to exist. My complaint being, many people never actually played Half-Life. Before gravity guns and having a little side chick named Alyx, Half-Life was a sick, sleek, gunner. Half-Life PS2POCALYPSE, remove the flair from the successor and gimmie dat grit!

Half-Life PS2 Review: How Valve’s Classic Shooter Holds Up on Console – The Negative Press – This is what the corporate websites be saying about this game rolled up into one concise AI rundown. This, however, this is my opinion.

I can imagine if Gordon were to ever speak in this game, the first thing he would say is “I’M NOT EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE HERE TODAY!”

Half-Life Story

It was just another day at Black Mesa Research Facility, deep underground, probably somewhere way past level 7, where Gordon Freeman was making his ridiculously long transit to his workstation. He gets all suited up, goes into his little experiment room to laser beam some crystal and BOOM! RESONANCE CASCADE MOTHER FUCKER!

This little experiment causes a portal to open between our world and some alien world. And how do we greet new life in America? Pull out the crowbar and start bashing skulls… or crabs. I think Gordon just had crabs and they got really big and started eating people’s heads.  And G-Man was like ok dude, I got your back, I’ll call in some aliens to cover this whole thing up… and the whole fucking army.

Whatever the hell actually happened, we get some zombies and crabs and army guys trying to kill us in this research lab. Your goal is to get the fuck out and to safety.

As mentioned, there is a dude named G-Man that kinda looks like a mix between Michael Ironside and Robert Patrick. I refer to him as the man who sold the world.

Half-Life Story 8/10

Half-Life Gameplay

You ever played a First Person Shooter? Run, strafe, and hold the fire button fool! Well, this isn’t Doom. This game relies heavily in a sci-fi reality. It is more grounded in reality, for the most part because unlike hyper real first person shooters, it is still fun.

There is a lot of puzzle solving using physics that slow the game down from time to time, but when there’s action, there’s action.

You get a wide array of weapons. Crowbar, Shotgun, Magnum, RPG, you know, usual first person shooter shit. Hi, gauss gun, what the fuck are you? Oh yeah and my absolute favorite gun of all time, MR. MP FUCKING 5.

Smacking shit with the crowbar is just so damn satisfying.

Basically, you are trying to get out of a highly secure black site with limited power and the fucking Army trying to come in to cover up the whole thing.

I would just like to make a weird note here, you ever notice that Half-Life 2 feels like the aliens put everyone in a concentration camp… yeah, weird. This game does not have undertones like that.

The strange thing is you are gonna kill a fuck ton of those alien dudes that become your friend in Half-Life 2. They become your friend because you kill their alien oppressor which is like some giant fetus at the end. Overall, it has a different tone than most shooters. It’s good. Really Good. And Violent

Half-Life Gameplay 10/10

Half-Life Difficulty

So, in theory, it is easy if you know what to expect and know that the lasers are actually trip mines. This game is designed to piss you off at times. There are so many cheap deaths you are going to encounter. Be aware of the environment and the army actually shoots to kill, not to detain.

Half-Life Difficulty 6/10

Half-Life Graphics

It’s 1998 graphics ported to 2001. Its a PC game packed into a Playstation 2 disc. Could it of looked better, yes? Was that the point, no.

Half-Life Graphics 7/10

Half-Life Controls

So, we are ported from a PC to a controller based console. With that being said, certain things can be excused and there isn’t much to actually excuse. It plays very well.

Half-Life Controls 9/10

Half-Life Sound

This game actually harbors a very haunting electronic soundtrack that picks up when you are in serious shit. Also, the dark ambience and the sounds of the weapons, badass. The weapons sounds like they have weight to them, I don’t know how else to explain it. The voice of the HEV suit is also another great touch.

Half-Life Sound 10/10

The AI gave this game a 84%, I give it
