Maybe its nostalgia, maybe I have a hidden fondness for SquareSoft, maybe I just enjoy crappy Beat Em Ups but, #0018, The Bouncer on PS2POCALYPSE, contrary to popular belief, doesn’t suck.

The Bouncer PS2 Review – A Cinematic Beat ’Em Up With Unrealized Potential – The Negative Press– This is the link to what the AI thinks about this game, now we can jump into what I think about this game.

I remember playing this back in the Blockbuster renting days. Probably rented it twice, I enjoyed it because I didn’t have a memory card for a long time after having a PS2. This game really doesn’t need a Memory Card to be enjoyed.  Well, pick a bouncer and lets get underway with this weird ass game that makes no sense but features some sweet graphics and some cool moves.

The Bouncer Story

The game starts out as just another day in the life of a Bouncer, I guess. Then all hell breaks lose and an army of Yoshimitsu’s kidnap grown Sora’s Girlfriend. She’s a cyborg or some shit, or some sort of space hooker. Anyway, you start busting skulls with ya bros. Then you get hunted down by a black panther that is somehow some dude’s ex girlfriend. Yeah… Square really was just trying to make an engine here. The story doesn’t matter. The gameplay does. The problem with this story that doesn’t really exist is it tries to remind you it is there every 5 minutes. Just kick some ass and ignore the lack of depth and laugh.

The Bouncer Story 4/10

The Bouncer Gameplay

Now, The gameplay in The Bouncer is tight. People shit on it a lot. But I think its pretty good. You beat some ass, level up, and boost yourself to get some new moves. You get to pick 1 of 3 characters and there are numerous ways to make it through this game with different stories each time. It’s no Way of the Samurai, but its playable. The problem lies in the interruptions of the story and the delayed input lag.

The Bouncer Gameplay 7/10

The Bouncer Difficulty

I think this game is actually fairly balanced between its obvious lack of depth and them not trying to fuck you over with what they knew was lacking with the game. The problem is it is too easy at times.

The Bouncer Difficulty 8/10

The Bouncer Graphics

This game originally came out in 2000 in Japan and 2001 in North America. You cannot shit on these graphics if you wanted to.

The Bouncer Graphics 10/10

The Bouncer Controls

You know you input shit and then it happens like 5 seconds later.

The Bouncer 5/10

The Bouncer Sound

Eh, you know what. Its pretty good in the audio department, its Square afterall.

The Bouncer Sound 8/10

The AI gave this game an 57%, I give it
