I know y’all been waiting for this, game number #0005 on the PS2POCALYPSE, Maximo: Ghosts to Glory. A stupidly difficult game that is a spiritual successor to some hot garbage if you want my honest opinion.
Sword-Swinging Adventure: A Critical Review of Maximo: Ghosts to Glory – The Negative Press -This is the link to what the AI thinks about this game, now we can jump into what I think about this game.
There really aren’t any codes for this game, just things that can be unlocked, I wouldn’t waste my time unlocking them neither.
So, first things first, I hate Ghosts ‘N Goblins and its sequels. I don’t understand why people like them. I cannot ever beat the second stage of those games. I do not like suffering in video games. Not my cup o tea. If its your thing, cool. Don’t try to make it mine. Maximo… It’s hard to say I hate this game, I like it to a degree, I don’t really have a lot of positive things to say about my gaming experience with this one though.
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory’s Story Starts with A Bitchsmack
We are thrown into the middle of the story the second the game starts with the opening cinematic. Maximo is returning to his castle from who the fuck cares and finds that his buddy Achille is trying to fuck his queen, Sophia. Achille smacks the shit out of Sophia, Maximo tries to smack the shit out of Achille and Achille kills Maximo, thus the triangle of love is set. Maximo is brought back to life by the Grim Reaper, who Maximo promises he will kill Achille for. Simple shit here.
Maximo’s queen gets tricked into marrying an evil wizard, Maximo is brought back to life, Maximo is now indebted to death to stop Achille. Our goal is to get our queen back and free the other sorceresses. Of course, each Sorceress is protected by some stupid gimmick boss.
The best part is when we beat the game, we don’t even save the real Queen, it was some demon dragon imposter. Bullshit, all this suffering for a lead up to the next game. (the next game is actually pretty spectacular). Of all the characters in this game, I really only like the Grim Reaper. The voice actor of the Grim Reaper is pretty funny.
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Story 6/10
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Gameplay
This is a new millennium platformer, this game should be fair and balanced, right? Right? RIIIIGHT? NO! This game is not fair and balanced, this game is a giant kick in the dick every chance it gives itself to.
You start each hub in the first stage of the hub, not the hubworld, Advance through the stage like any other platformer, avoid traps, hit enemies, activate checkpoints (BYSKY-STABBING THEM, YEAH THE GAME EVEN MADE ACTIVATING CHECKPOINTS A PROCESS). Your health is represented by a suit of armor, When you are down to your last health bar you will lose all your armor, got to admit it’s kind of funny seeing a dude run around in his boxers. Pro-Tip, if you have 3 bars of armor and you see another armor piece, grab it… That shit will grant you invincibility for 30 seconds. You…WILL… NEED… IT! You complete the stage by getting to the end of the section and finding this electric orb thing and breaking it.
This game offers a lot of powerups. If you collect all the powerups you can be better suited to fight your enemies, the enemies are going to kick your ass anyway. The coins you collect are used to pay for the prize items located at various parts of each map and to SAVE THE GAME, that’s right YOU GOTTA PAY TO SAVE THE GAME. The most valueable powerups are the weapon ones, you can get some pretty bitchin swords from power your sword up. Your shield is pretty useless if you ask me as blocking takes shield points away (yep YOUR SHIELD HAS A HEALTH BAR).
Ok so I basically just described a 3D Platformer, wooo, yep, so what makes this game so hard. Firstly you got a weird ass camera angle you gotta deal with at all times, you got enemies that beat the shit out of you from crazy fucking angles, you got hands that will just pop up and attack you on different colored patches of ground if you aren’t paying attention. This game is just hard dude. Platforming downward sucks as you will not know the proper depth of the jump due to the camera angle. this game is just tough… dude… But god damn beating it just makes you feel pretty damn good.
The biggest fucking bullshit about this game is the final hub world gate bullshit. The final hubworld requires you to use keys to open doors. the problem is it is the same keys used in stages to generally get extra items. The final two stages require those keys to be used throughout the stage. FORCING YOU TO GRIND GOING BACK TO THE SAME INSANELY HARD STAGE OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
I really didn’t like any of the boss fights in this game and the final boss fight is an asshole.
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Gameplay 6/10
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Difficulty
This game is just not fair, every single detail is designed to screw you over. Capcom really wanted to remind you at every single corner that this is a Ghosts ‘N Goblins game. Plus what is with fighting some of the enemies in this game. Its like nothing works on killing them and you have to resort to weird tactics to get them to open up themselves for a hit.
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Difficulty 3/10
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Graphics
Is there anything good about this game? Yeah.. THE GRAPHICS ARE FUCKING STUNNING. They really made these colors and worlds pop with the color schemes used. The cinematics are astounding as well. Too bad the rest of the game doesn’t feel as good as it does graphically.
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Graphics 10/10
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Controls
I mean, besides the typical I SWEAR I HIT THE FUCKING JUMP BUTTON, bullshit with any platformer, they are ok I guess.
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Controls 8/10
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Sound
The voice acting is top notch, the sound effects are alright and the OST is decent
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Sound 7/10
The AI gave this game a 72%, I give it
