A long box classic no one mentions. It’s a shame too because for the most part this is a really enjoyable game. Exit Light Enter Stage in PSXSLAYER #0015 Assault Rigs, don’t try this at home kids! Coooooool Jump!
Assault Rigs Review (PS1): Retro Vehicular Combat with Rough Edges – The Negative Press – Here is what those fat cat video game websites feel about this game, here is the slang banging cuss filled Douche Loder version of those words.
If you like early 3D like mid era Dos games, look no further than Assault Rigs.
Assault Rigs Story
There isn’t much of a story here. They tried to make one though. The opening scene shows a person getting into a cyber enclosure to go play a game of Assault Rigs. Everything in this game is a game within a game! There is an ending scene too… YOU ARE VICTORIOUS!
The only other thing that ties into this is when you get close to enemies you can hear their internet connection trying to connect. Kinda neat. Not much of a story though.

Assault Rigs Gameplay
It is a simple premise. You pick a tank between the swift, heavy and hybrid units. You then drive around 41 stages collecting gems and trying to find an exit block to get to the next stage. You blow up shit along the way and collect cool ass weapons.
The game has no bosses but the enemies get progressively tougher throughout the game, don’t worry. They start off pretty easy but over time they get annoying. There are several different stage types that change the aesthetic of the game. But not really change the game.
Assault Rigs runs on a password system so bust out the pen and paper.
Assault Rigs Gameplay 7/10

Assault Rigs Difficulty
The pacing in this game is all over the place, its a damn rollercoaster. Some stages are super easy, some are really difficult. The second to last stage is the skill tester. Most stages are just fun. You gotta find walls you can warp through too, kinda annoying.
Overall, its not too hard, but there are points in this game that are way harder than the should be at times where they should be easy and vice versa.
Assault Rigs Difficulty 7/10

Assault Rigs Graphics
We are plagued with dropping frame rates in bigger stages. Warping Textures are a plenty. The stages as a whole and the rigs look super cool though. For a low budget game its tolerable.
Assault Rigs Graphics 5/10

Assault Rigs Controls
The funny thing is, it’s got tank controls but hey its a tank game, so its cool. You can strafe though, which gives the illusion of drifting. Its smooth enough to push the blocks when you have to, shoot enemies and platform.
Assault Rigs Controls 8/10

Assault Rigs Sound
Dude, for a low budget game. This OST goes super hard. Shit blows up and you hear each piece hit the ground. The announcer is a nice touch too. HAVING FUN!?!?!
