When you think of Vampires and Playstation, you probably instantly go Symphony of the Night, well, there is a game that came out before it that is a little bit more for mature audiences. Move over Alucard, you got your moves from Kain. Suck them dry in PSXSLAYER #0013 Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. VAE VICTIS!
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain PS1 Review – Gothic Ambition, Flawed Power, Timeless Story – The Negative Press – Here is what those fat cat video game websites feel about this game, here is the slang banging cuss filled Douche Loder version of those words.
Do you like slaughtering the innocent in a blood soaked, blood bathing, blood sucking, blood ritual? Look no further!
There is a Magical operation of maximum importance; the Initiation of a New Aeon. When it becomes necessary to utter a Word, the whole Planet must be bathed in blood…
Blood Omen Story
From one of the worst stories in a game to, holy shit, of the absolute best stories told on the Playstation. Blood Omen is a bloody story of revenge, but who’s exactly?
Kain is assassinated and turned into a vampire. Is he good? Is he bad? He is just Kain. When Kain turns into a vampire he visits the pillars of Nosgoth. He meets the ghost of Ariel who tells him to go restore balance to Nosgoth by killing each pillar’s master. Kain takes it upon himself to kill every mother fucker, vampire fucker, beast fucker, and diablo looking shithead in his path. Draining them of every drop of blood in their body. Even the ones with Tainted Blood.
This is a very very loose explanation of this game and the series that unfolds after it… I am still worried I am not going to enjoy Soul Reaver which I am starting to play right after this review is published.
Blood Omen Story 10/10
Blood Omen Gameplay
The main goal at hand is to kill the master of each pillar but you are going to spend 20 hours ripping through dungeons and towns. This game is secret thick. What this game gets right is if you find a switch in a room, you know it activated something within the same room. Sometimes killing is the key, sometimes draining a prisoner of blood is the key.
Take your time and pay attention and cross reference the map. Find all the items, spells, and all the fun little blood dungeons. Get more magic by finding tablets and more blood by finding vials.
You start as a low tier vampire and by the end you are going to be a stepping razor of blood draining proportions. You…don’t…fuck…with…Kain. Kain fucks with you! And how does he do that? By getting the abilities to turn into a werewolf, myst, or a common townfolk. WHERE DID YOU GET THAT SHIT FROM ALUCARD? GAME PUBLISHED IN 1997! HMMMMM!?!?!?!
Rip everyone to shreds, manipulate their minds, make ’em fucking explode! And that damn Soul Reaver weapon… mwwwuah, beautiful. Take your time and enjoy this game in all its blood-soaked beauty. Turn up the volume, turn up your attention, tune into your inner beast.
THE ONLY, and I mean only, thing that gets annoying in this game is the loading time. You have to change your armor, weapons, magic, and items ALOT, in some parts more than others. It takes roughly 1 minute to pause and change and unpause. It’s annoying in tense situations but hey, you’ll forget the second that blood hits your lips.
Blood Omen Gameplay 10/10
Blood Omen Difficulty
Is this game hard? Yes. Is it balanced? Definitely. If you take your time and walk through each little hut and cave you will find this game is not that hard. There is an easy solution for every scenario you encounter. ACTIVATED THE DAMN BELL SHIELD!
Blood Omen Difficulty 10/10
Blood Omen Graphics
For a 1996 video game, it is fucking beautiful. Those awesome cutscenes, godly. The art of the entire pause menu, the little nuance of the pillars being shown on the side and the entire HUD that shows magic and health. Boom, amazing.
Blood Omen Graphics 10/10
Blood Omen Controls
I touched on it once, and here it is again. The load scenes, I am putting them here. They belong here because they could have found a better, faster way to change armor and weapons but hey, I am only dropping it 2 points.
Blood Omen Controls 8/10
Blood Omen Sound
The OST is a fucking banger. Kain’s voice actor is awesome. Everything in this game’s sound department is just crisp.
Blood Omen Sound 10/10
The AI gave this game a 79%, I give it
