From the start of this adventure years ago I have looked forward to playing this game. This is the first Playstation game I have ever played. Twisted Metal is 100% a product of the 90’s. A guy who grants wishes to combatants in a deadly game of cars with guns on them. Kill em all in PSXSLAYER #0007 Twisted Metal, let’s get twisted!
Twisted Metal Review (PS1) – The Game That Turned Cars into Weapons – The Negative Press – Here is what those fat cat video game websites feel about this game, here is the slang banging cuss filled Douche Loder version of those words.
As stated earlier, this game does have a nostalgic hold on me. I will try to be as real as possible with this review.
Twisted Metal Story
It is hard to make a concise statement about the story of Twisted Metal since there is only a few canonical winners in each game. It wouldn’t make sense if everyone’s wish lead to the next in the series. Basically, Twisted Metal is a game created by a wish granting dead madman that rose from the depths of hell, Calypso.
Calypso wants everyone to drive their automobile of death and kill everyone else. The winner of the game gets a wish, as already mentioned.
Some endings are funny. Some are insane. Some are wicked. Some are dark. Some are pretty neat. Calypso usually gets the last laugh though. In this game, the endings are presented in text. In the early renditions of this game, as revealed by Twisted Metal Head-On, there were a ton of recorded FMV endings. They were all sadly cut from the game. If you want a funny ending, just beat the game as Sweet Tooth.
I played the game as Warthog. Warthog gets evidence that UFOs exist as his ending.
Twisted Metal Story 10/10
Twisted Metal Gameplay
The premise is simple. Blow everyone else the fuck up. Drive around, wait for your vehicle’s special attack to recharge, collect missles, get health in those weird machines when you are about to die and keep telling yourself to not drive 55.
The trick is to hold turbo and hold machine guns down the entire time. IN EVERY TWISTED METAL.
This is the only Twisted Metal that features only one final boss. The tank driving Minion. Good Luck. No, not with Minion but with the two previous stages. IN EVERY TWISTED METAL.
I don’t know how else to really get into the gameplay deeper than how I did on Twisted Metal Black.
Twisted Metal Gameplay 8/10
Twisted Metal Difficulty
Oh boy. The fun part. This game doesn’t gang up on you like the other ones. Just keep on truckin’ and driving intelligently.
Twisted Metal Difficulty 7/10
Twisted Metal Graphics
This game was released in 1995. This is pure early 3D graphics. And they look god damn good. This is the only game that allows you to change perspective to inside of the vehicle you are driving. I recommend doing that if you ever play this game. It just adds something to the immersion. When I say inside, I don’t mean just a first person perspective. You actually get to see the dash and little into the personality of the driver you are playing as.
Twisted Metal Graphics 7/10
Twisted MetalControls
So, this game really suffers from tank controls. I mean, after all, you are fucking driving a tank. The problem lies in the fact that the AI can precise aim with ease as they don’t have to use a controller. You however do. Precision aiming is a pain in the ass in the thrill of the battle.
Twisted Metal Controls 5/10
Twisted Metal Sound
This is before licensed music was used in this series. The cool thing is that every special attack has it’s own signature sound. If you flip through each character really fast on the character select screen you can make a cool little song with all their special attack sounds.
Twisted Metal Sound 6/10
The AI gave this game a 70%, I give it
