HAHAHA, yeah so, this week was a long one, I have worked 70 hours this week delivering wine in blizzards all over the state. I had 4 cases of wine fall on me yesterday while trying to pull them into a delivery stop and LOL, I had to make the joke 6 months ago that I would have to write this review twice because I had to play this game twice. Yep, here is the second draft because the first draft didn’t make it through. I fucking love you WordPress.
Soul Blade PS1 Review – The Weapon Fighter That Forged Soulcalibur – The Negative Press – Here is what those fat cat video game websites feel about this game, here is the slang banging cuss filled Douche Loder version of those words.
I honestly like Soul Calibur, Soul Blade is a little missing link into the narrative people usually look over. I have wanted a reason to play this game since I had a discussion about it in high school, I feel like it lived up to it’s expectations.
Soul Blade Story
A small gripe I have with people and their opinion of fighting games is that a lot of people like to believe that fighting games do not have a story. Since people have limited reading ability or something, when the PlayStation era hit, most video games provided a narrative and ending movie for each of their characters. Soul Blade is no exception
This game is the origin of everyone trying to obtain the Soul Edge. You know that weapon from Soul Calibur that Nightmare wields. The weapon grants wishes or immortality or giant slutty tits in the case of Ivy or whatever it does.
On the first mysteriously missing playthrough of this game I played as “Old Maxi” on this viewable play through I played as Rock. Rock does a Rock Bottom and a People’s Elbow on Inferno and bam we get some backstory about how he was separated from his family due to a pirate ship blowing up another ship or something. He believes that obtaining the soul edge will help him find his family.
Eh, it’s a crude thrown together story, but it is an origin for 6 more games that build the depth to make it more enjoyable for the player.
Soul Blade Story 6/10
Soul Blade Gameplay
So generally I feel most 3D Fighting games are clunky and cumbersome. The interesting thing is you add weapons to Tekken 1 and it feels a lot more smooth. Maybe that weight needed on the controls with the heavy weapons in your hands ties those clunky feelings.
Soul Blade is just Tekken with weapons. It feels better than Tekken but not better than Tekken 2. Its a 3D fighter and my consensus is that any time you can keep a 3D Fighter as 2D as possible you are kicking it’s ass. Worry about moving forward and backwards not in and out.
You can fly through this game if you are good at fighting games. I do not know how to comment as someone who doesn’t play fighting games. Now I did only spend about 40 minutes total with this game, one day I will go back and play more than just the arcade mode. But overall, its an enjoyable 3D Fighting game from Namco that plays smoother than counterparts from the same time, namely Mortal Kombat 4 and Battle Arena Toshinden.
Soul Blade Gameplay 9/10
Soul Blade Difficulty
As stated in the last section. I am a fighting game fan. If you are not a fighting game person, maybe this game will get under your skin. But at the same time, I do not see someone who is not a fighting game fan ever playing this game anyway. Inferno can be a bitch.
Soul Blade Difficulty 8/10
Soul Blade Graphics
This is a 1995 arcade game ported over to 1997 for PlayStation. It’s a tad bit crude but like I stated on Half-Life THAT’S NOT THE POINT. The point was to put it in your house and let you enjoy it.
Soul Blade Graphics 6/10
Soul Blade Controls
This game is pretty smooth with the controls. Try to keep it as 2D as possible and you will agree.
Soul Blade Controls 10/10
Soul Blade Sound
Its nothing to write home about. The announcer is cool but not as animated as he is in Soul Calibur. The character voices aren’t annoying but they aren’t anything to over the top and the OST is just there.
Soul Blade Sound 7/10
.The AI gave this game a 75%, I give it
