F1 Pole Position 64 for the Nintendo 64, there is something to say about this one. First and probably the biggest issue was on stages with walls, when you hit the wall, the way it bounces you around like a rag doll, and even at times bouncing you backwards like you hit a wall of rubber, and snags you can get what I call a snag on a way of literally nothing looks smooth, acts as it has jagged edges.
The Turning isn’t too bad to deal aslong as you pick the right specs for your car. There are two different types of tires: slick and Rain tires. From my experience with the game, you can just run Rain tires, and it will be okay in both clear weather and rain. As for the slick tires, they are good in clear weather but terrible in the rain.
Another gripe is the placement of the pit lanes; they blend in with the track, and you can go into the pit without knowing, so it’s an issue if you don’t need to pit.
Rubber banding? This game has none which is great, it’s actually easy to lap racers.
Braking, pretty good brakes to be honest, I really didn’t have issues with the braking at all.
You have a fuel gauge and your tires can wear down, but if you play on the easiest setting, you don’t need to worry about it unless you up the difficulty.
10 Laps per race, and I went through 16 races, so 160 laps, and the game’s over 🙂 All in all, it’s a decent racing game for Nintendo 64; it’s very playable. I started out struggling, but like any game, adaptation is key.
The Tracks are great, except for the pit lanes looking like the normal track.
I love that it has weather conditions and that they ain’t a total Struggle considering its age.
Final Thoughts? It was fun, it’s a game I’d play again.
The amount of detail this game has as far as tuning and whatnot is pretty damn good. There is a lot of tuning options that can be done. Although there is 3 lines on the tuning screen, it’s not clear which lines are better to get your tuning to.
