Fight Night Round 2 immediately reminded me of the Knockout Kings games. I was then informed this was EA Sports’s new boxing franchise that took over for Knockout Kings. Well hey, its nutsmashingly good!
Let’s get to smashing some nuts with illegal maneuvers
Fight Night Round 2 has a rather interesting story that actually kind of exists
Fight Night Round 2 has a few modes that you can pick from. If you choose the career mode and create a new boxer, the story is simply a dude from the streets is gonna kick some ass and punch some nuts all the way up to the top and win the belt in his weight class. From this point on we are going to act like my character’s story is the story of the game and go from there.
Assholio Nutsmash was in a vicious car wreck after a hit was put on him by the meatpackers union 187. His face mangled, his car destroyed, his life in ruin. In his depression he grew fat and out of shape. His old friend Don Rodriguiz from the Bronx gave him a call and told him he should be a boxer. Not knowing shit about how to box he starts taking on all boxers of all backgrounds. In a game of fists, the best way to get ahead is with elbows and SMASHING YOUR OPPONENTS NUTS. When the ref ain’t looking anything is legal.
From the start of the career mode Assholio Nutsmash is a strength focused boxer that is out of shape. He trains his way with the body bag into becoming the fastest, strongest, nutsmashingist pugilist in town. In no time he becomes a lean mean testicle destroying champion.
Fight Night Round 2 Story 7/10
Fight Night Round 2 Gameplay
Fight Night Round 2 has some killer gameplay. The fights are fun and engaging. You will either fight some super offensive boxers or super defensive boxers, there is almost no in between, unless you want to include the dumbasses you fight in the amateurs that just abosrb hits to the face more than Assholio Nutsmash does.
Don’t get cut or the match will be stopped and you will lose. Don’t over use illegal techniques or you will lose. Just right hook, right hook, right hook, right hook, profit! Well, you will get down to the end doing that but you will probably get steam rolled if you don’t learn how to block. I couldn’t beat the last guy in the championship without changing the game over to easy, but that’s no fault of the game that is my own stubbornness and unwillingness to learn.
The game has a super in depth create a boxer mode. You can play as legends of boxing but I didn’t even take the time to even see what that mode was like, I will probably replay this one day just to see some more of the boxers this game has on its roster. You can sculpt some really insane looking fighters in this game, its kinda creepy but overall awesome.
You get to unlock new moves and new gear for your boxer too from saving up your money from prize fights. Your money can also be used to get some better ring crew, new entrance music and stage antics and of course, Las Vegas’s best prosti…escorts, definitely escorts. Go from being a nobody to the world fucking champion.
Your boxer also ages so keep an eye on the amount of time you are using up to get matches won. Another thing too is the training modes are cool but I really only used the body bag to train.
You also can change your weight class to kick more ass in other weightclasses. You get a title shot the second you change classes.
For what it is, this game is fun, its simple, its bloody, its good. Also when you get flash knockouts you feel like a damn conqueror of punches!
Fight Night Round 2 Gameplay 10/10
Fight Night Round 2 Difficulty
Honestly, I would love to give this game a perfect score but some of the opponent boxers just feel dirty. There is times when your opponents stamina gauge will just shoot up after a knockdown for no damn reason. Some of these guys block way faster than they should be able to as well. It gets a bit frustrating nearing the end of career mode.
Fight Night Round 2 Difficulty 8/10
Fight Night Round 2 Graphics
The graphics in this game are fucking amazing for its time. The arenas look awesome. The boxers look awesome. The whole damn game is fucking great looking. The slow down replays on the knockouts, awesome! The blood, awesome!
Fight Night Round 2 Graphics 10/10
Fight Night Round 2 Controls
The controls on this game are super slick and responsive. There is not a moment of delay when you hit something and it happening. Fighting games can learn from this game.
Fight Night Round 2 Controls 10/10
Fight Night Round 2 Sound
There is a cool Geto Boys song and the fights sound cool but the licensed music is a bit lacking… and the commentators love to keep saying the nicknames of the fighters over and over and over again.
Fight Night Round 2 Sound 6/10
The AI gave this game a 75%, I give it
