Castlevania Chronicles for PS1 is a game that is beloved by fans of the classic side-scrolling action platformer genre. Its challenging gameplay, immersive atmosphere, and haunting soundtrack have made it a timeless classic that is still played and enjoyed by gamers today. However, what many players may not know is that the game also has several codes, secrets, and unlockables that can enhance the experience even further.

One of the most notable unlockables in Castlevania Chronicles is the ability to play as a new character. After completing the game with Simon Belmont, players can unlock the ability to play as Richter Belmont, the protagonist of the critically acclaimed Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Richter plays differently than Simon, with different abilities and moves, making for a fresh and exciting playthrough.

Another unlockable is a harder difficulty setting called “Arrange Mode”. This mode features new levels, enemies, and music, as well as a more challenging experience overall. It is recommended for players who are looking for an even greater challenge and who have mastered the game’s normal difficulty setting.

In addition to these unlockables, Castlevania Chronicles also has several secrets that can be discovered by exploring and experimenting. These include secret areas that can only be accessed by performing certain actions or finding hidden passages, as well as power-ups that can increase the player’s health, strength, or agility. These secrets add to the game’s replayability and encourage players to keep exploring even after they have completed the game.

Konami Code

At the title screen do this (slightly modified for domestic release’s button layout) classic Konami code:
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Circle, X, Start.
Once done, a screen will come up showing ”Extra Option” where there’s a Date set and a Display Mode set.

Sound Module Select

Hold L1 and R1 while selecting Original Mode, and you’ll unlock an option to change the music played in the game. This works in Arrange mode, as well.

Passwords

Start with less energy

Enter your name as NOMIS… and you will start the game with much less energy than usual. This in effect will make the game more challenging.

Unlockables

For every stage you complete in Arranged Mode (there are 26 in all), you will unlock one illustration by Ayami Kojima, the artist for Akumajou Dracula X: Gekka no Yasoukyoku / Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and for Akumajou Dracula X68000 / Castlevania Chronicles.
The illustrations can be accessed by selecting Special Option in the Option menu.
.
Harder Mode (Original Mode only)
Beat the game at least once. The game will become harder and harder every time you beat it.

Time Attack

Successfully complete Arrange Mode to unlock Time Attack Mode where you can try to better your stage clear times.

Finally, completing Castlevania Chronicles with certain conditions can unlock an alternate ending that provides a new perspective on the game’s story. This adds an extra layer of depth to the game’s narrative and rewards players who are willing to put in the effort to achieve this ending.

Overall, the codes, secrets, and unlockables in Castlevania Chronicles for PS1 make an already great game even better. They add to the game’s replayability and make it a rewarding experience for players who are willing to invest time and effort into discovering them. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the Castlevania series or a newcomer to the genre, Castlevania Chronicles is a game that is well worth playing and exploring.
