In 1991, the Sega Mega Drive saw the exclusive release of 16t (or 16 ton), a scrolling action platformer game available solely in Japan.
In the game, players assume control of Apple Gaikichi, a young man clad in prison attire, navigating a maze-like structure. His primary objective is to dispatch adversaries using the eponymous 16-ton weights, squashing them into a gruesome pulp.
Apple possesses a total of five weights in his arsenal, which he hurls in an arcing trajectory. Subsequent to each throw, Apple must patiently await the recharge of a weight.
The weights exhibit a dynamic behavior, capable of bouncing off one another. Hence, Apple must exercise caution to avoid self-crushing while throwing. However, this feature opens up opportunities for ricochet shots, enabling players to hit distant opponents.
Weights sustain damage and gradually deteriorate upon impact with other weights or when targeted by adversaries. Apple can ingeniously utilize these weights as additional platforms to access elevated areas.
The overall gameplay mirrors that of Teddy Boy Blues, where the protagonist is tasked with eliminating numerous enemies within an endlessly looping maze world.
